REPORT & INTERVIEWS: Northampton 15 wins for Creamer and Pardoe
Lauren Creamer and Paul Pardoe proved quickest at the Northampton and District CA 15-mile time trial in Cambridgeshire on Saturday afternoon.
Creamer (Velo Fixers) covered the N1/15 course from Alconbury to Stilton in 35-57 to take victory in the female category by a good margin with runner-up Lindsay Clarke (Fenland Clarion Cycling Club) clocking 38-39 and third spot going to Tonya Smith (Fenland Clarion) in 39-44.
Meanwhile, Paul Pardoe (Peterborough Cycling Club UK) covered the 15 miles in an impressive 30-32, leaving junior Sam McDonald (George Fox Cycling Solutions) to take second spot in exactly 31 minutes, while top junior Ethan Squires (Beeston Cycling Club Members) was impressive with 31-46.
“I’m very happy with the result, beating my time from the same event last year by 45 seconds and setting a course PB with slightly less power,” said Pardoe.
“It also shows that some recent position and equipment changes I've made with the help of George Fox have paid off.
“I think this also clinched the overall N&DCA series championship for me as well, and being the Peterborough Cycling Club Open TT, it couldn't have gone any better.
“Conditions turned out much better than forecast, with the rain holding off until after the race finished. A steady cross tail wind out and cross head wind back made a fairly even pacing strategy work out well, which suits me more than strong headwind/tailwind conditions.”
Fastest female Lauren Creamer explained after the race that she was glad to get back out on the road after illness had disrupted her training for the last month.
“I felt decent today, so hopefully, that's all behind me!” she said. “It was a course for lots of concentration today with the crosswinds and plenty of roundabouts to consider.
“I was grateful for the marshals at all of the roundabouts but not necessarily grateful for the ramp at the end!”
In other categories Team Milton Keynes’ Chris Bradbury was fastest on a road bike in 34-38, taking the win by 50 seconds from Shaun Brennan (George Fox Cycling Solutions) in 35-28, while Chris Cummings (Fenland Clarion) clocked 37-32 for third in the open road bike category.
Lizzy Archer (Ride Revolution Cycle Coaching) clocked 45-00 and was the fastest female on a road bike.
The £100 which was raised on the day from the refreshments and cakes following the event will be donated to Cancer Research UK.
Cash prizes for the fastest three in the open, female and road bike categories were provided by Peterborough Cycling Club’s main sponsor Qualitetch Components Ltd.
